The Wizard of Oz (2012)

You can certainly say that, 'somewhere over the rainbow' is the Elsternwick campus of Wesley College, a place that has delighted the Wesley school community and theatre audiences alike with the quality of its productions in recent years.
This year's production is The Wizard of Oz, a title which immediately conjures in our minds the iconic characters, images and songs of this classic film musical that has transferred so brilliantly to the stage – most recently in a "tweaking" by Andrew Lloyd Webber, currently playing at the Palladium in London.
Based on the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, published in 1900, the musical tells the story of Dorothy Gale, a Kansas farm girl who dreams of a better place, "over the rainbow", and who, in the company of the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man and Scarecrow, encounters many adventures on her journey along the Yellow Brick Road.
This production is based on the 1988 Royal Shakespeare Company version that entranced audiences with a musical score that authentically captured the essence of, and even surpassed, the majestic original film score.
This is a musical for all ages – and with characters and songs to fall in love with all over again.
