Russell Goldsmith
OW1995
Head of Audio at the CUB Malthouse
Principal of TotalTech Productions
In his acceptance speech as the recipient of the 2007 Sydney Theatre award for Best Sound Design/Composition for his work on Exit the King, Russell attributed his experience with the ATC as the best training ground he could possibly have had. During his years at Wesley he had been actively involved in some 35 productions, mentored by Technical Director Sabino Del Balso and challenged by the technical demands of the ATC’s extensive production program. His work on Exit the King is also a current nomination in the same category for the Victorian Green Room awards.
After his graduation from Wesley, Russell completed a course in recording technology and commenced studies for the Master in Sound Design degree at Sydney University. However, such were the demands on his time that further studies fell by the wayside as his career as a sound designer, composer and audio engineer burgeoned. Malthouse Theatre Company, Chapel off Chapel, Melbourne Theatre Company and Chamber Made Opera are just some of the many companies to have drawn on his talents, along with numerous festivals and projects.
In 2002 Russell won a Green Room Award for Best Sound Design/Composition for his work on Slow Love, and has since received a Green Room Award nomination for his work on The Frail Man. His more recent achievements include his Sound Design and Composition for the City of Melbourne’s ‘Laneways Project’ commission, Rosie’s Secret, and the radio documentary A Packet of Seeds for the BBC in London.
Currently Russell is Head of Audio at the CUB Malthouse and the principal of TotalTech Productions. He is also the producer, electronic foley artist and keyboard player with the atmos/electronic rock band Cinematic.
