Hilde Osland (OW2004): Almost an Idol
Posted 26 January 2012
Wesley College’s Hilde Osland (OW2004) has not let being a relatively shy performer stop her from pursuing her dreams.
The 24-year-old made it to the semi-finals of Norway Idol after moving there for a year to work but didn’t make it into the finals of the competition.
Hilde’s mother, Wenche, who co-owns the bookshop Book and Paper, said she was very proud of her daughter.
"Our family is from Norway – Hilde was born there," she said.
Moving to Australia 24 years ago, Wenche said the family went back to Norway frequently for visits.
Wenche said family suggested Hilde try out for Idol, knowing how well she could sing.
"She hasn’t been used to singing in front of large audiences – she’s normally too shy to sing in front of anyone."
Wenche said she’s enjoyed watching her daughter’s performances online but is also missing her while she’s away.
"We’re such a small family here – we miss her," she said.
"We’re very proud – she’s got guts to do it – especially considering how she’s such a soft spoken person."
Despite her new-found Norwegian celebrity, Hilde will be coming home to spend Christmas with her family this year.
